A man used to pray on the roof of his house, and whenever he recited "Is not He then able to give life to the dead?" [Qiyamah 75:40], he would say, "Glory be to You, yes indeed."They asked him about that, and he replied, "I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
كان رجل يصلي فوق بيته، وكان إذا قرأ: {أليس ذلك بقدر على أن يحيي الموتى} [القيامة: ٤٠] قال: سبحانك، فبلى. فسألوه عن ذلك، فقال: سمعته من رسول الله ﷺ.
Abu Dawud (884) narrated it from Muhammad bin Muthanna, who said, Muhammad bin Jafar narrated to us, who said, Shuba narrated to us, from Musa bin Abu Ayesha, and he mentioned it. Bayhaqi (2/310) also narrated it through this route. Its chain is sahih, and not knowing the name of the companion does no harm.Ibn Kathir said, "Abu Dawud alone narrated it, and this companion is not named, but that does no harm."Some have found fault with it on the grounds that Musa bin Abu Ayesha, though trustworthy, never met any of the companions. However, the chain contains what indicates that he heard from this man who was praying above his house, and that man was a companion. This is strengthened by the mursal narration of Qatada, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, whenever he recited it, would say, "Glory be to You, yes indeed." This was narrated by Ibn Jareer Tabari and others with a sahih chain up to Qatada.
