Imam Ahmad (20590) narrated it from Abu Muawiya and Abda, who both said, Asim narrated to us from Abu Aliyah, and he related the hadith. Ibn Abu Shayba (1/369) also narrated it from Abda alone, similarly. Its isnad is sahih, and the fact that the companion is not named does not harm it. Haythami mentioned it in Majma al-Zawaid (2674) and said, "Ahmad narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the sahih." I say, Abu Muawiya is Muhammad bin Khazim Dareer Kufi, who went blind while young, and he is one of the narrators found in all the major collections. Asim is Ibn Sulayman Ahwal, Abu Abdul-Rahman Basri, one of the narrators found in all the major collections. Abu Aliyah is Rafi bin Mihran, one of the narrators found in all the major collections.Imam Ahmad (20651) also narrated it from Yahya bin Saeed Umawi, from Asim, who said, Abu Aliyah narrated to us, saying, someone who heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me that he said, "Every surah has its share of ruku and sujud." He said, then I met him afterward and said to him, "Ibn Umar used to recite several surahs in a single rakat, so do you know who told you this hadith?" He said, "Indeed I know him, and I know how long ago he told it to me, he told it to me fifty years ago."Bayhaqi (3/10) narrated it from his teacher Abu Abdullah Hakim, through the route of Marwan bin Muawiya, who said, Asim Ahwal informed us, from Ibn Sirin, who said, Ibn Umar used to recite ten surahs in every rakat. Asim said, so I mentioned that to Abu Aliyah, and he said, "I too used to recite twenty surahs in every rakat, but someone who heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me that he said, 'Every surah has its share of ruku and sujud.'" Bayhaqi said, Abdul-Wahid bin Ziyad corroborated him, narrating from Asim in the hadith of Abu Aliyah. Then he narrated it through the route of Abdul-Wahid, who said, Asim Ahwal narrated to us with the same content.There is no contradiction between this hadith and the hadiths mentioned earlier about combining two or more surahs in a single rakat, since both demonstrate permissibility in each case. Whoever performs more ruku and sujud has the better course, as stated in the sahih hadith, "The servant is nearest to Allah when he is prostrating."
