The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite in the late evening prayer surahs such as ash-Shams and similar ones.
كان رسول الله ﷺ يقرأ في العشاء الآخرة بالشمس وضحاها، ونحوها من السور.
Tirmidhi (309) and Nasai (999) both narrated it through the route of Husayn bin Waqid, from Abdullah bin Burayda, from his father Burayda, who related the same. Imam Ahmad (22994) also recorded it through this same route. Its isnad is hasan because of Husayn bin Waqid, who is "truthful," since most critics said of him "there is no harm in him," and he is among the narrators of Muslim. As for Hafiz Ibn Hajar, he placed him in the rank of "trustworthy but has lapses," though it is more fitting to describe him as "truthful." Tirmidhi said, "Hasan."
