Muslim narrated it in the Book of Mosques (599) as a suspended report, saying, "I was told about Yahya bin Hassan and Yunus the tutor and others, who said, Abdul-Wahid bin Ziyad narrated to us, saying, Umara bin Qaqa narrated to us, Abu Zura narrated to us, saying, I heard Abu Hurairah," and then he mentioned the hadith.Maziri said in Muallim (1/283), "This hadith is one of the fourteen suspended hadiths in this book."The hafiz Abu Bakr Bazzar connected its chain, narrating it from Abu Hasan Muhammad bin Miskin al-Yamami, who settled in Basra, from Yahya bin Hassan al-Tinnisi, with his chain of transmission. Muhammad bin Miskin was narrated from by both Bukhari and Muslim in their two Sahihs.Hakim also connected its chain in Mustadrak (1/212–215), narrating from Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Yaqub al-Hafiz, who said, Yahya bin Muhammad bin Yahya narrated to us, saying, Abdullah bin Abdul-Wahhab al-Hajji narrated to us, saying, Abdul-Wahid bin Ziyad narrated to us, with the same wording. Bayhaqi transmitted it (2/196–197) through Hakim's route, and he also narrated it through another route from Abdul-Wahid bin Ziyad.Hakim said, "It is sahih according to the criterion of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim)."Bayhaqi said, "It is a sahih hadith, and it is possible that what is meant by it is that he does not remain silent in the second recitation as he did in the first for the opening supplication."
