Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood for prayer, he would say the takbir as he rose, then say the takbir again as he bowed. When he raised his back from the bow, he would say, "Allah hears whoever praises Him," and while standing he would say, "Our Lord, to You belongs all praise." Then he would say the takbir as he went down, say the takbir as he raised his head, say the takbir as he prostrated, and say the takbir as he raised his head again. He would do this throughout the entire prayer until he completed it, and he would say the takbir when rising from the sitting after the second rakah.
كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا قام إلى الصلاة يكبر حين يقوم، ثم يكبر حين يركع، ثم يقول: سمع الله لمن حمده، حين يرفع صلبه من الركعة، ثم يقول وهو قائم: ربنا لك الحمد، ثم يكبر حين يهوي، ثم يكبر حين يرفع رأسه، ثم يكبر حين يسجد، ثم يكبر حين يرفع رأسه، ثم يفعل ذلك في الصلاة كلها حتى يقضيها، ويكبر حين يقوم من الثنتين بعد الجلوس.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Adhan (789), and Muslim in the Book of Prayer (392), both of them through Ibn Shihab, from Abu Bakr bin Abdul-Rahman bin Harith, that he heard Abu Hurairah say, and he then mentioned the hadith.Muslim also related it through Malik, and it is in the Muwatta in the Book of Prayer (19), from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, that Abu Hurairah used to lead them in prayer, saying the takbir every time he lowered and raised himself, and when he finished he would say, "By Allah, I am the closest of you in resemblance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in prayer."
