The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Bilal calls the adhan at night, so eat and drink until Ibn Umm Maktum makes the call." Then he added, "He was a blind man who would not make the call until he was told, 'Morning has come, morning has come.'"
إن رسول الله ﷺ قال: إن بلالا يؤذن بليل فكلوا واشربوا حتى ينادي ابن أم مكتوم ثم قال: وكان رجلا أعمى لا ينادي حتى يقال له: أصبحت أصبحت.
Malik narrated it in "The Prayer" (15) from Ibn Shihab, from Salim bin Abdullah, as a mursal report. But Qanabi narrated it, saying, "from his father," and by his route Bukhari narrated it in "Adhan" (617) from him, from Malik, with the same wording. Muslim narrated it in "Fasting" (1092) through several routes from Ibn Shihab and others. Its referencing has already been covered in the chapter on what has been said about the adhan before Fajr.
