The Prophet ﷺ said, "Bilal calls the adhan at night, so eat and drink until Ibn Umm Maktum calls the adhan."
عن النبي ﷺ أنه قال: إن بلالا يؤذن بليل، فكلوا واشربوا، حتى يؤذن ابن أم مكتوم.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Adhan (622) from Ishaq, who said, Abu Usama informed us, he said, Ubaydullah narrated to us, from Qasim bin Muhammad, from Ayesha, and she then mentioned the hadith.Muslim narrated it in the Book of Fasting (1092) through another route from Ubaydullah with his chain, except that he did not give its wording in full, and instead referred to the hadith of Ibn Umar. He also narrated it in the Book of Fasting (1919) from Ubaydullah bin Ismail, from Abu Usama, with the same wording, and in it, "He does not give the call to prayer until Fajr breaks."Qasim (that is, Ibn Muhammad) said, "There was nothing between their two calls to prayer except that this one would go up as that one came down."This is mursal, because Qasim bin Muhammad was a Tabii who did not witness the event, but it has come as connected (mawsul) from Ayesha through his route, where she said, "There was nothing between them except that this one would come down and that one would go up."Nasai and Tahawi both narrated it from Ubaydullah bin Umar, from Qasim, from her.Bukhari also narrated it with another chain, joined onto that of Ishaq, saying, "Yusuf bin Isa Marwazi narrated to me, he said, Fadl narrated to us, he said, Ubaydullah bin Umar narrated to us," with wording like that of the hadith of Ishaq.
