My house was the tallest of the houses around the mosque, and Bilal used to give the call to prayer for Fajr from its roof. He would come just before dawn, sit on the roof, and watch for the break of dawn. When he saw it, he would stretch, then say, "O Allah, I praise You and seek Your help against Quraysh, that they may establish Your religion." Then he would give the call to prayer. She said, "By Allah, as far as I know, he never omitted these words for a single night."
Abu Dawud reported it (519), saying, Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Ayub narrated to us, Ibrahim bin Saad narrated to us, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Muhammad bin Jafar bin Zubayr, from Urwa bin Zubayr, from a woman of Banu Najjar, and he mentioned the hadith. Its chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin Ishaq, for he was a mudallis and narrated with an mode (ambiguous transmission wording), but he stated clearly that he heard it directly in Sirat bin Hisham (2/156), which removes the suspicion of concealment. As for what Abu Shaykh reported from Abu Barza Aslami, "It is from the sunnah that the adhan be given from the minaret and the iqama in the masjid," this is daif and munkar. Bayhaqi reported it (1/425) from Abu Bakr bin Harith, from him, from Ibn Abu Hatim, Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Yazid Tarabulsi narrated to us, Khalid bin Amr narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Jareeri, from Abdullah bin Shaqiq, from Abu Barza Aslami, and he mentioned something similar. Bayhaqi said, This is a munkar hadith that no one narrated except Khalid bin Amr, and he is daif with munkar hadiths. End of quote.I say, it is as he said, for Khalid bin Amr bin Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Saeed bin Aas Umawi, Abu Saeed Kufi, was accused of lying by Ibn Main, and Salih Jazara and others attributed fabrication to him. Zaylai mentioned it in Nasb Raya (1/293) from Abu Shaykh from Saeed Jariri, without pointing out that Khalid bin Amr, who is daif, is in its chain.Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba reported it in his Musannaf (1/224) as mursal, from Abdul-Ala, from Jareeri, from Abdullah bin Shaqiq, as his own statement, without mentioning Abu Barza Aslami. Some scholars of knowledge faulted it because of Jareeri, since he became confused in memory three years before his death, except that Abdul-Ala's hearing from him was before that confusion set in. The conclusion is that it is either daif and munkar, or mursal.
