The Prophet ﷺ passed by a young man who was skinning a sheep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Step aside so I may show you." He then placed his hand between the skin and the flesh and pushed it in until it disappeared up to his armpit. Then he went on, prayed, and did not perform ablution.Abu Dawud said, Amr added in his version, "meaning he did not touch water." He also said, from Hilal bin Maymun ar-Ramli.
أن النبي ﷺ مرا بغلام وهو يسلخ شاة، فقال له رسول الله ﷺ: تنح حتى أريك، فأدخل يده بين الجلد واللحم، فدحس بها حتى توارت إلى الابط، ثم مضى، فصلى ولم يتوضأ. قال أبو داود: زاد عمرو في حديثه: (يعني لم يمس ماء). وقال: عن هلال بن ميمون الرملي.
Reported by Abu Dawud (185) and Ibn Majah (3179), both through the route of Marwan bin Muawiya, who said, Hilal bin Maymun Juhani informed us, from Ata bin Yazid Laythi. Hilal said, "I only know it as being from Abu Saeed." Ayub and Umar said, "We think it is from Abu Saeed," and they related the hadith.Its isnad is hasan because of Hilal bin Maymun. Ibn Main deemed him trustworthy, while Abu Hatim said of him, "He is not strong, but his hadith is written down." Nasai said, "There is no harm in him."Abu Dawud said, "Abdul-Wahid bin Ziyad and Abu Muawiya reported it from Hilal, from Ata, from the Prophet ﷺ as a mursal narration, without mentioning Abu Saeed." End of quote.However, this hadith has come through other connected routes mentioning Abu Saeed, and this addition from trustworthy narrators is acceptable. Ibn Hibban also graded it sahih (1163) from this same route.
