The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on an intensely hot day, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led his companions in prayer. In the course of it he said, "Everything you will enter into has been shown to me. Paradise was displayed before me, so much so that had I reached out for one of its clusters of fruit I would have taken it," or he said, "I did reach out for one of its clusters, but my hand fell short of it. And the Fire was displayed before me, and I saw in it a woman from the Children of Israil being tormented over a cat she had tied up, neither feeding it nor letting it eat from the creatures of the earth. And I saw Abu Thumama Amr bin Malik dragging his intestines in the Fire…" and the rest of the hadith.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on the eclipse (904: 9) from Yaqub bin Ibrahim Dawraqi, who said, Ismail bin Ulaya related to us, from Hisham Dastawai, who said, Abu Zubayr related to us, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who said, then he related it.Muslim also narrated it (904: 000) from Abu Ghassan Musmai, who said, Abdul-Malik bin Sabbah related to us, from Hisham, with this same chain, similarly, except that he said, "And I saw in the fire a tall, dark-skinned Himyari woman," and he did not say, "from Banu Israil."
