Nasai narrated it (178), he said, Harun bin Abdullah informed us, he said, Harmi bin Umara narrated to me, he said, Shuba narrated to us, from Abu Bakr bin Hafs, from Ibn Shihab, from Ibn Abu Talha, from Abu Talha, and he mentioned the hadith. Its isnad is sahih. But Malik narrated in his chapter on purification (28), from Musa bin Uqba, from Abdul-Rahman bin Zayd Ansari, that Anas bin Malik came from Iraq, and Abu Talha and Ubayy bin Kaab visited him. He brought them food that had been touched by fire, and they ate from it. Then Anas got up and performed wudu, so Abu Talha and Ubayy bin Kaab said, "What is this, Anas? Is this an Iraqi custom?" Anas said, "I wish I had not done it." Then Abu Talha and Ubayy bin Kaab got up and prayed without performing wudu.Imam Ahmad narrated it (16365) through the route of Musa bin Uqba with his isnad, and it states, Anas said, "Ubayy bin Kaab, Abu Talha, and I were sitting, and we ate meat and bread. Then I called for water to perform wudu, so they said, 'Why are you performing wudu?' I said, 'Because of this food we ate.' They said, 'Do we perform wudu because of good, wholesome food? One who is better than you did not perform wudu because of it.'"Its isnad is hasan because of Abdul-Rahman bin Zayd Ansari, for there is no harm in him, as Abu Hatim said. This indicates that Abu Talha knew that his earlier hadith had been abrogated, and he used as evidence the statement, "One who is better than you did not perform wudu because of it."
