Umar bin Khattab said that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever dies not associating anything with Allah the Exalted, the gates of Paradise will be opened for him, and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes. It has eight gates..." and so the hadith continues.
قال عمر بن الخطاب: إن نبي الله ﷺ قال: من مات لا يشرك بالله تعالى شيئا، فتحت له أبواب الجنة، يدخل من أيها شاء، ولها ثمانية أبواب… الحديث.
Tabarani reported it in al-Awsat (7943) — and from him Abu Naeem in al-Hilya (9/307) — from Musa bin Isa bin Mundhir, who said, Muhammad bin Mubarak Sawri narrated to us, who said, Yahya bin Hamza narrated to us, from Wadeen bin Ata, from Qasim Abu Abdul-Rahman, from Uqba bin Amir, who said, and then he mentioned it in a long hadith. Abu Naeem also reported it in Sifat al-Jannah (166) through another route, from Yahya bin Hamza, who said, Yazid bin Abu Maryam narrated to me, from Qasim bin Abdul-Rahman, with the same wording. Its chain is hasan because of Qasim bin Abdul-Rahman, for his narrations are hasan. It seems that Yahya bin Hamza heard this hadith from both Wadeen bin Ata and Yazid bin Abu Maryam, since both were among his teachers, so he sometimes narrated it from one and sometimes from the other. As for what is reported from Uqba bin Amir, who said, "I entered the masjid while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering a sermon, and Umar said to me, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said before you arrived, "Whoever dies believing in Allah and the Last Day will be told, enter Paradise through whichever of its eight gates you wish."'" its chain is daif. Imam Ahmad (97) and Abu Dawud Tayalisi (30) both reported it through the route of Hammad bin Salama, from Ziyad bin Mikhraq, from Shahr bin Hawshab, from Uqba, who mentioned it. Shahr bin Hawshab has been criticized, and he frequently narrated with gaps in his chains, and he did not hear from Uqba bin Amir directly. The hadith is sahih, as established earlier. So Haythami's statement in al-Majma (1/16), "Its chain contains Shahr bin Hawshab, who has been graded reliable," does not amount to declaring the chain sahih or hasan, given the disconnection present in it. I have drawn attention to this point in many places, including in the introduction.
