Ibn Khuzayma related it (1/90, no. 176) via Sufyan, from Simak, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah, who is the son of Ibn Masud, from his father, and he related the hadith. Its chain of transmission is hasan, for Simak is a disputed narrator, but Sufyan's narration from him is sahih, as Yaqub bin Shayba said, "His narration from Ikrima specifically is confused, but with regard to anyone other than Ikrima he is sound, though he is not among the most rigorously careful narrators. Those who heard from him early on, such as Shuba and Sufyan, their hadiths from him are sahih and sound."Bazzar also related it, as Haythami mentioned in Majma al-Zawaid (4/84).Now know, may Allah have mercy on you, that the hadith of Ibn Masud with this chain has been related in parts, one part as a raised report, namely, completing the wudu thoroughly, and another part as a stopped report, such as, "Two transactions should not be combined into one transaction." A detailed discussion of this will come in the book on trade. The hadiths of this chapter indicate the obligation of performing wudu without interruption, and this is the view held by Malik, Ahmad, and Shafii according to one of his two opinions, while his second opinion is that performing it without interruption is merely recommended. See what I have written in detail on this in Minna Kubra (1/166-167).
