Abu Tufayl reported,

I was in Kufa when someone said, "The Dajjal has appeared!"We came to Huzaifa bin Usayd while he was narrating, and I said, "The Dajjal has appeared!"He said, "Sit down."So I sat down. Then the chief came and said, "The Dajjal has appeared, and the people of Kufa are fighting him."He said, "Sit down."So I sat down. Then it was announced that it was a lie spread by a dyer.We said, "Abu Sariha, you have not made us sit here except for a reason, so narrate to us."He said, "If the Dajjal were to appear in your time, the children would pelt him with pebbles. But the Dajjal will appear at a time of hatred among people, weakness in religion, and bad relations between them. He will visit every watering place, and the earth will be folded up for him as a ram's skin is folded, until he reaches Medina. He will overpower its outskirts but be prevented from entering it. Then he will go to the mountain of Iliya and besiege a band of Muslims. Their commander will say to them, 'What are you waiting for with this tyrant? Why not fight him until you meet Allah or victory is granted to you?' So they will resolve to fight him in the morning. When morning comes, Isa, son of Maryam, will be with them. The Dajjal will be killed and his followers routed, until even the trees, stones, and clay will say, 'Believer, here is a Jew hiding behind me, kill him.'He has three signs. He is one-eyed, while your Lord is not one-eyed. Between his eyes is written 'disbeliever,' which every believer can read, whether literate or illiterate. None of the riding beasts will be subjected to him except the donkey, so he is filth upon filth."Then he said, "There is something other than the Dajjal that I fear more for myself and for you."We asked, "What is it, Abu Sariha?"He replied, "Trials like patches of dark night."We asked, "Who among the people will be the worst in those trials?"He said, "Every eloquent orator and every mounted rider who lays claim to authority."We asked, "Who among the people will be the best in those trials?"He said, "Every wealthy man who keeps to himself in obscurity."I said, "I am neither wealthy nor obscure."He said, "Then be like the young camel, neither with a back strong enough to be ridden nor with an udder to be milked."
