The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Hour will not come until you fight a people with small eyes and broad faces, as though their eyes were the pupils of Jarad and their faces were hammered shields. They will wear shoes of hair, carry leather shields, and tie their horses to palm trees."
It was narrated by Ibn Majah (4099), Ahmad (11261), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (6747), all of them through routes from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Saeed Khudri, who mentioned it. Its chain is sahih. What is narrated from Burayda bin Husayb is not correct. He said, "I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, 'My nation will be driven by a people with broad faces and small eyes, as if their faces were shields,' three times, 'until they drive them to the Arabian Peninsula. As for the first wave, whoever flees from them will escape. As for the second, some will perish and some will escape. As for the third, they will be utterly wiped out, every one of them who remains.'" They said, "O Prophet of Allah, who are they?" He said, "They are the Turks." He said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, they will tie their horses to the columns of the mosques of the Muslims."He said, Burayda would never part with two or three camels, along with travel gear and waterskins, preparing them for flight because of what he had heard from the Prophet ﷺ regarding the calamity to come from the rulers of the Turks. It was narrated by Ahmad (22951), and this is his wording, and Abu Dawud (4305), and Hakim (4/474), all of them through the route of Bashir bin Muhajir, who said, Abdullah bin Burayda told me, from his father, who said, and then he mentioned it. The wording of Abu Dawud and Hakim is abridged, with some variation.Bashir bin Muhajir is Ghanawi Kufi, about whom there is disagreement. In my view, his hadith is hasan when the hadith has a basis and contains nothing objectionable. But when he narrates something alone, his solitary narration is not accepted. This is why Ahmad said, "His hadith is munkar." I have examined his hadiths, and indeed he comes up with astonishing things.
