The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Among the signs of the Hour are that wealth will become abundant and widespread, trade will flourish, knowledge will become widely available, and a man will be offered a sale and will say, 'No, not until I consult the merchant of such-and-such tribe.' And a scribe will be sought in a large neighborhood but none will be found."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن من أشراط الساعة أن يفشو المال ويكثر، وتفشو التجارة، ويظهر العلم، ويبيع الرجل البيع، فيقول: لا حتى أستأمر تاجر بني فلان، ويلتمس في الحي العظيم الكاتب فلا يوجد.
Narrated by Nasai (4456), Hakim (72), and Khattabi in Gharib al-Hadith (1/405), all of them through the hadith of Wahb bin Jareer, who said, "My father narrated to me, from Yunus, from Hasan, from Amr bin Taghlib," and he related it. The wording given here is that of Nasai. Hakim confined himself to the phrase, "and trade will spread." As for Khattabi, he made the phrase, "and a man sells the sale," and what follows it, part of the statement of Amr bin Taghlib. Its chain of transmission is sahih, and the discussion of it is given at length in the chapters on business transactions.His saying, "and knowledge will appear," is explained by his saying, "and the pen will spread," as in the preceding hadith. It may be that what is meant is an abundance of writings. And Allah knows best.
