The Prophet ﷺ said, "Time will draw close together, deeds will diminish, miserliness will spread, tribulations will appear, and harj will increase."They asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is harj?"He replied, "Killing, killing."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: يتقارب الزمان، وينقص العمل، ويلقى الشح، وتظهر الفتن ويكثر الهرج، قالوا: يا رسول الله، أيم هو؟ قال: القتل، القتل.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Tribulations (7061), and Muslim in the Book of Knowledge (157:12), both through Abdul-Ala, who said, Muammar narrated to us, from Zuhri, from Saeed, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. The wording given is Bukhari's, for Muslim did not present his own wording but instead referred back to the hadith of Yunus and Shuayb, both narrating from Zuhri, in which it says, "Knowledge will be taken away."
