The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You will surely follow the ways of those who came before you, fathom by fathom, cubit by cubit, hand-span by hand-span, to the point that if they entered the hole of a lizard, you would enter it too."They asked, "Messenger of Allah, do you mean the Jews and the Christians?"He replied, "Who else would it be?"
قال رسول الله ﷺ: لتتبعن- من كان قبلكم باعا بباع، وذراعا بذراع، وشبرا بشبر، حتى في جحر ضب لدخلتم فيه، قالوا: يا رسول الله اليهود والنصارى؟ قال: فمن إذا؟
Ibn Majah (3994), Ahmad (9819), and Ibn Abu Asim in Sunnah (72) all narrated it, all of them through Yazid bin Harun, from Muhammad bin Amr, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, who related it. Its chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin Amr, who is al-Laythi, for his hadith is hasan.
