The narrator said, I was sitting with Ali when a man wearing travel clothes came in. Ali was speaking with the people and they were speaking with him. The man said, "Commander of the Faithful, will you permit me to speak?" Ali did not turn to him, being preoccupied with what he was engaged in. So I sat next to the man and asked him, "What news do you bring?"He said, "I was on my way to perform Umrah when I met Ayesha. She said to me, 'These people who came out in revolt in your land are called the Haruriyyah.' I said, 'They came out at a place called Harura, and so they were named after it.' She said, 'Blessed is the one who witnesses their destruction. If the son of Abu Talib wished, he could tell you their story.' So I came to ask him about their story."When Ali finished, he asked, "Where is the one who sought permission to speak?" The man recounted to him what he had recounted to us.Ali said, "I once entered upon the Messenger of Allah, and there was no one with him except Ayesha, Umm Muiminin. He said to me, 'How will you fare, Ali, with a people who are such and such?' I said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' Then he gestured with his hand and said, 'A people will come out from the east who recite the Quran, but it will not pass beyond their throats. They will pass through the religion the way an arrow passes through the prey. Among them is a man with a deformed arm, as if his hand were a breast.'"Ali said, "I adjure you by Allah, did I not tell you about them?"They said, "Yes."He said, "I adjure you by Allah, did I not tell you that he is among them?"They said, "Yes."He said, "Then you came to me and told me he was not among them, and I swore to you by Allah that he was among them, and then you brought him to me, dragging him just as I had described to you."They said, "Yes."He said, "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth."
Nasai narrated it in Khasais Ali (183), and this is his wording, and Abdullah bin Ahmad in Zawaid al-Musnad (1378-1379), and Ibn Abu Asim in Sunnah (946), and Bazzar (782-783), and Abu Yaala (472, 482), all of them through various routes from Asim bin Kulayb, from his father, and he mentioned it.Its isnad is hasan because of Kulayb bin Shihab, for he is truthful. Ibn Kathir said in Bidayah wan-Nihayah (10/600), "Its isnad is good."
