The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "After me there will be among my nation, or there will arise after me among my nation, a people who recite the Quran, but it will not pass beyond their throats. They will pass out of the religion as an arrow passes through its target, never to return to it. They are the worst of creation."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن بعدي من أمتي أو سيكون بعدي من أمتي- قوم يقرؤون القرآن، لا يجاوز حلاقيمهم، يخرجون من الدين كما يخرج السهم من الرمية، ثم لا يعودون فيه، هم شر الخلق والخليقة.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Zakat (1067) from Shayban bin Farroukh, who said, Sulayman bin Mughira told us, Humayd bin Hilal told us, from Abdullah bin Samit, from Abu Dharr, and he related it. Abdullah bin Samit said, I then met Rafi bin Amr Ghifari, the brother of Hakam Ghifari, and I said, "What is this hadith I heard from Abu Dharr, such and such?" And I related this hadith to him, and he said, "I too heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
