Abu Dawud (4141) and Ibn Majah (402) narrated it via Abu Jafar Nufayli, who said, Zuhayr bin Muawiya narrated to us, from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.Tirmidhi (1766) narrated it via Abdul-Samad bin Abdul-Warith, who said, Shubah narrated to us, from Amash, with the same chain, except that he confined it to, "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ put on a shirt, he began with his right side." He said, Several narrators related this hadith from Shubah with this chain from Abu Hurairah as a stopped report, and we do not know of anyone who reported it as a raised hadith except Abdul-Samad bin Abdul-Warith from Shubah. End of quote.I say, the narrators of Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah are reliable, and its chain is sahih. Abu Jafar Nufayli is Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Ali bin Nufayl Harrani, a reliable and precise scholar among the narrators of Bukhari.As for Tirmidhi's statement that narrators other than Abdul-Samad bin Abdul-Warith did not report it from Shubah as raised, this does not undermine its soundness, for perhaps Shubah related it in two ways due to some doubt that arose in him, while Amash did not hesitate in reporting it as raised, and certainty is not removed by doubt.It was also recorded by Ibn Khuzayma in his Sahih (1/91, no. 178), and by Ibn Hibban in Al-Mawarid (1452), and Ibn Qattan also graded it sahih.
