Uthman sent Saeed bin al-As on the day of al-Jaraa. The people went out to confront him and turned him back.I was sitting with Abu Masud and Huzaifa, and Abu Masud said, "I never thought he would return without blood being shed over him."Huzaifa replied, "But I know for certain that they will turn back without a single cupping vessel of blood being spilled. I knew everything about this while Muhammad ﷺ was still alive. Indeed, a man may rise in the morning a believer and reach the evening with nothing of faith left in him, and he may reach the evening a believer and rise in the morning with nothing of it left. He fights for his faction today, and Allah kills him tomorrow. His heart is turned upside down, his backside rising above it."I asked, "His underside?"He said, "His backside."
Ahmad (23348) and Hakim (2/158) both narrated it through the route of Shuba, from Amr bin Mura, from Abu Bakhtari, from Abu Thawr Haddani, who mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Abu Thawr Haddani, for Shaybi and Abu Bakhtari both narrated from him, and Shaybi was among those who narrated only from trustworthy narrators. Abu Dawud said, "A great Kufan." And Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators.Hakim said, "Sahih in chain."
