Tabarani related it in Al-Awsat (1311) and in As-Saghir (1/144), both through Muhammad bin Maslama Makhzumi, who said, "Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Dinar told me," who said, "Ubaydullah bin Umar told me, from Zayd bin Aslam, from his father, from Muhammad bin Maslama," and he related it.Tabarani said, "No one narrated this hadith from Ubaydullah except Muhammad, Muhammad bin Maslama alone transmitted it." I say, all of them are trustworthy, and the chain is sahih. Haythami said in Al-Majma (7/300–301), "Its narrators are trustworthy." The hadith has other chains (19979), but they contain a break in transmission.On this subject there is also a report from Abdul-Rahman bin Samura, who said, "I was holding Ibn Umar's hand on one of the roads of Madinah, when he came upon a head mounted on a pole. He said, 'Wretched is the killer of this man.' Then when he had passed, he said, 'I think this man too has become wretched. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever walks up to a man from my nation intending to kill him should do like this," meaning he should stretch out his neck, "for the killer will be in the Fire, and the one killed will be in Paradise."'"Abu Dawud (4260) and Ahmad (5708) related this, both through Abu Awana, from Raqaba bin Masqala, from Awn bin Abu Juhayfa, from Abdul-Rahman bin Samura, who related it.There is disagreement over the name of Abdul-Rahman bin Samura's father. Some say Samura, others say Sumayr, and others say Sumayra. No one but Ibn Hibban rated him trustworthy, which is why Hafiz said in At-Taqrib, "Acceptable," meaning when corroborated, and I have not found any corroborating narration for him.
