Hakim narrated it (2/92-93) from Ahmad bin Muhammad Anazi, who said, "Uthman bin Saeed (that is, Darimi) narrated to us, Ahmad bin Yunus narrated to us, Zuhayr (that is, bin Muawiya) narrated to us, Abdullah bin Uthman bin Khuthaym narrated to us, from Nafi bin Jubayr, from Nafi bin Sarjis, that he heard Abu Hurairah say," then he related it.Its isnad is hasan because of Nafi bin Sarjis al-Hijazi, the freed slave of Banu Sibaa. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in al-Thiqat, and Imam Ahmad was asked, "How is his hadith?" He said, "I know nothing but good of him."A note - in the printed edition of Hakim it appears like this, "Nafi bin Jubayr, from Nafi bin Sarjis," and it may be that the words "Nafi bin Jubayr" are an interpolation, since I did not find him among the students of Nafi bin Sarjis, nor among the teachers of Abdullah bin Uthman.Abdul-Razzaq (20731), Ibn Abu Shayba (38418), and Hakim (4/432) all narrated it through various routes from Abdullah bin Uthman bin Khuthaym, from Nafi bin Sarjis, from Abu Hurairah, with the same wording, but as his own statement, without attributing it to the Prophet.The ruling belongs to whoever adds more, and Zuhayr bin Muawiya is Ibn Khadij al-Jufi al-Kufi, a reliable and firmly established narrator, and an addition from a reliable narrator is accepted by the majority of hadith scholars, especially since this hadith is not the kind of thing that could be said on the basis of personal opinion or independent reasoning.As for his statement, "beyond the durub," the durub are the plural of darb, meaning every road that leads out to the edge of the towns.
