The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Before the Hour there will be trials like patches of dark night. A man will wake up as a believer and reach the evening as a disbeliever, and reach the evening as a believer and wake up as a disbeliever. People will sell their religion for a trifling worldly gain."
عن رسول الله ﷺ قال: تكون بين يدي الساعة فتن كقطع الليل المظلم، يصبح الرجل فيها مؤمنا ويمسي كافرا، ويمسي مؤمنا ويصبح كافرا، يبيع أقوام دينهم بعرض من الدنيا.
Tirmidhi (2197), Abu Yaala (4260), and Hakim (4/438–439) all narrated it through the route of Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Saad bin Sinan, from Anas, and he related it. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hadith gharib from this route," meaning daif from this route. Saad bin Sinan, also said to be Sinan bin Saad, is disputed, some scholars judged him daif, but Ibn Main and Ahmad bin Salih judged him trustworthy. Bukhari said, "The correct name in my view is Sinan bin Saad, and he is sound and his hadith is close to reliable, while Saad bin Sinan is a mistake, said only by Layth."Ibn Hibban likewise favored this view, and said, "I examined his hadith and found that what he narrated as Sinan bin Saad resembles the hadiths of trustworthy narrators, while what he narrated as Saad bin Sinan or Saeed bin Sinan contains objectionable material, as if they were two different men."
