I saw on Salt bin Abdullah bin Nawfal bin Abdul-Muttalib a ring on his right little finger, so I asked, "What is this?"He replied, "I saw Ibn Abbas wearing his ring like this," and he placed the stone on the back of his finger. He said, "I do not think Ibn Abbas did this except that he used to mention that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore his ring in this manner."
It was narrated by Abu Dawud (4229) and Tirmidhi (1742), both through the route of Muhammad bin Ishaq, who said, and then he mentioned it. Tirmidhi said, "Muhammad bin Ismail said, the hadith of Muhammad bin Ishaq from Salt bin Abdullah bin Nawfal is a hasan hadith."I say, and it is so, because of Salt bin Abdullah, for a group narrated from him, Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, and Mizzi quoted Zubayr bin Bakkar as saying, "He was a jurist and a devout worshiper."
