Abu Umama reported,

Amr bin Abasa al-Sulami said, "During the days of ignorance, I used to believe that people were on misguidance and that they were upon nothing of value, since they worshipped idols. Then I heard about a man in Mecca who was bringing news, so I mounted my camel and went to him. There I found the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in hiding, with his people emboldened against him. I went discreetly until I entered upon him in Mecca."I asked him, "What are you?"He replied, "I am a prophet."I asked, "And what is a prophet?"He answered, "Allah has sent me."I asked, "With what has He sent you?"He said, "He has sent me to uphold the ties of kinship, to break the idols, and that Allah be worshipped alone with nothing associated with Him."I asked him, "Who is with you in this?"He said, "A free man and a slave." At that time only Abu Bakr and Bilal had believed in him along with him.I said, "I will follow you."He replied, "You cannot do that on this day of yours. Do you not see my situation and the situation of the people? But return to your family, and when you hear that I have prevailed, come to me."So I went back to my family. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Medina while I was still with my family, and I began seeking news and questioning people after his arrival in Medina. Eventually a group from Yathrib, the people of Medina, came to me. I asked, "What has this man who came to Medina done?"They said, "The people are rushing to him. His own people wanted to kill him but were unable to do so."So I traveled to Medina and went in to him. I said, "Messenger of Allah, do you recognize me?"He said, "Yes, you are the one who met me in Mecca."I said, "Indeed."Then I said, "Prophet of Allah, tell me about what Allah has taught you and which I do not know. Tell me about the prayer."He said, "Pray the dawn prayer, then refrain from prayer until the sun rises and climbs up, for it rises between the two horns of Satan, and at that time the disbelievers prostrate to it. Then pray, for the prayer is witnessed and attended, until the shadow of a spear becomes equal to it. Then refrain from prayer, for at that time Hell is heated up. When the shade returns, then pray, for the prayer is witnessed and attended, until you pray the afternoon prayer. Then refrain from prayer until the sun sets, for it sets between the two horns of Satan, and at that time the disbelievers prostrate to it."I said, "Prophet of Allah, tell me about the ablution."He said, "There is not a man among you who brings forward his water for ablution, then rinses his mouth, draws water into his nostrils and blows it out, except that the sins of his face, his mouth, and his nostrils fall away. Then when he washes his face as Allah has commanded him, the sins of his face fall away with the water from the ends of his beard. Then he washes his hands up to the elbows, and the sins of his hands fall away with the water from his fingertips. Then he wipes his head, and the sins of his head fall away with the water from the ends of his hair. Then he washes his feet up to the ankles, and the sins of his feet fall away with the water from his toes. Then if he stands and prays, praising Allah, glorifying Him, and exalting Him as He deserves, and empties his heart for Allah, he leaves his sins as he was on the day his mother bore him."Amr bin Abasa related this hadith to Abu Umama, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.Abu Umama said to him, "Amr bin Abasa, consider what you are saying. Is all this given to a man in a single standing?"Amr replied, "Abu Umama, I have grown old, my bones have weakened, my appointed time draws near, and I have no need to lie about Allah or about the Messenger of Allah. Had I not heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except once, twice, or three times," and he kept counting until he reached seven times, "I would never have related it. But I heard it more times than that."
