Humran reported, "I used to prepare the water for Uthman's purification, and not a day passed without him pouring water over himself for a full bath."Uthman said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us as we were leaving this prayer of ours."Masaar said, "I think it was the afternoon prayer."The Prophet ﷺ said, "I do not know whether to tell you something or remain silent."We said, "Messenger of Allah, if it is good, then tell us, and if it is otherwise, then Allah and His Messenger know best."He said, "There is no Muslim who purifies himself, perfecting the ablution as Allah has prescribed for him, and then prays these five prayers, except that they become an expiation for whatever sins occur between them."
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on purification (231) from Abu Kurayb Muhammad bin Ala and Ishaq bin Ibrahim, both from Waki. Abu Kurayb said, Waki narrated to us, from Masaar, from Jami bin Shaddad, who said, I heard Humran... and he mentioned something similar.
