"Whoever braids his hair must shave it. Do not resemble those who mat their hair."
من ضفر رأسه فليحلق، ولا تشبهوا بالتلبيد.
Malik narrated it in the Hajj chapter (204) from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, from Umar, and he related it.But Abdullah bin Umar differed from him, as Bukhari narrated in the Clothing chapter (5914) from Abu Yaman, who said, Shuayb informed us, from Zuhri, who said, Salim bin Abdullah informed me that Abdullah bin Umar said, I heard Umar say, "Whoever braids his hair should shave it off, and do not imitate matting the hair." And Ibn Umar used to say, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his hair matted.This means that Umar bin Khattab held that shaving is obligatory for one who matted his hair during ihram, unlike his son Abdullah, who differed with his father and said, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his hair matted, and did not make shaving obligatory for one who matted his hair. And although he himself shaved, he also permitted trimming.
