A time limit was set for us regarding trimming the moustache, clipping the nails, plucking the underarm hair, and shaving the pubic hair, that we should not leave them for more than forty nights.
وقت لنا في قص الشارب، وتقليم الأظفار، ونتف الإبط، وحلق العانة، أن لا نترك أكثر من أربعين ليلة.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Purification (258) through Jafar bin Sulayman, from Abu Imran Jawni, from Anas bin Malik, and he related it.As for what is narrated from Anas bin Malik, who said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set a time limit of forty days at most for us regarding shaving the pubic hair, trimming the nails, cutting the mustache, and plucking the armpit hair," this is daif. Abu Dawud narrated it (4200) from Muslim bin Ibrahim, who said, Sadaqah Daqiqi told us, Abu Imran Jawni told us, from Anas bin Malik, and he related it.Abu Dawud said, "Jafar bin Sulayman narrated it from Abu Imran, from Anas, without mentioning the Prophet ﷺ having said, 'He set a time limit for us.' This version is more sahih, and Sadaqah is not strong." End of quote.I say, it is as he said. Sadaqah is Ibn Musa Daqiqi, Abu Mughira Sulami Basri, who is daif. Abu Dawud declared him daif, and Abu Hatim said, "Weak in hadith."The sahih version of this is as Muslim narrated it through Jafar bin Sulayman, and as Abu Dawud pointed to, namely that we should not leave it more than forty nights. That is, whenever the need arises, we trim it. Some scholars set the limit from one Friday to the next.
