The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade wearing qassi garments and clothes dyed with safflower, wearing gold rings, and reciting the Quran while bowing in prayer.In another narration, the Prophet ﷺ forbade me from reciting the Quran while bowing, and from wearing gold and safflower-dyed clothing.
أن رسول الله ﷺ نهى عن لبس القسي والمعصفر، وعن تختم الذهب، وعن قراءة القرآن في الركوع. وفي رواية: نهاني النبي ﷺ عن القراءة وأنا راكع، وعن لبس الذهب والمعصفر.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Clothing and Adornment (2078:29) from Yahya bin Yahya, who said, "I read to Malik, from Nafi, from Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Hunain, from his father, from Ali bin Abu Talib," and he mentioned it. It also appears in Muwatta in the narration of Yahya Laythi (Prayer:28) without mentioning the safflower-dyed garment. The other narration in Muslim (2087:30) comes through Ibn Shihab, "Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Hunain narrated to me," with the same wording.His saying "qassi" refers to a type of cloth brought from Egypt that contains silk. What was forbidden was wearing qassi cloth, wearing safflower-dyed garments, and wearing gold rings, for men but not for women. It was also considered disliked for women to wear silver rings, because that resembles the dress of men. So if they cannot find gold, they should color the silver with saffron or something similar.
