The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a man who was praying upon a rock. He went off toward the outskirts of Mecca, remained there for a long while, and then returned to find the man still praying as before. He stood, clasped his hands together, and said three times, "People, hold to moderation, for Allah does not grow weary until you grow weary."
مر رسول الله ﷺ على رجل يصلي على صخرة، فأتى ناحية مكة، فمكث مليا ثم انصرف، فوجد الرجل يصلي على حاله، فقام، فجمع يديه، ثم قال: ياأيها الناس، عليكم بالقصد، - ثلاثا- فإن الله لا يمل حتى تملوا.
Ibn Majah (4241), Abu Yaala (1797), and Ibn Hibban (357) all narrated it through the route of Yaqub bin Abdullah Ashari Qummi, from Isa bin Jariya, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who related it.Its chain is hasan because of Isa bin Jariya, about whom Abu Zura said, "There is no harm in him." More than one scholar has spoken critically of him, such as Ibn Main and Abu Dawud and others, but this particular hadith of his has a firm basis.
