The Prophet ﷺ drew a square, then drew a line in the middle extending beyond it, and drew several small lines branching off from the line in the middle on its side. He said, "This is the human being, and this surrounding line is his appointed term encompassing him. This line extending outside is his hopes and aspirations, and these small lines are the misfortunes that befall him. If one misses him, another strikes him, and if that one misses him, yet another strikes him."
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on Riqaq (6417), from Sadaqa bin Fadl, who said, Yahya bin Saeed informed us, from Sufyan, who said, my father narrated to me, from Munzir, from Rabee bin Khuthaym, from Abdullah, and he mentioned it.
