Nephew, the hair of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was longer than reaching the earlobes but shorter than reaching the shoulders. By Allah, nephew, a whole month would pass during which no fire would be lit in the house of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for cooking, except when there was meat. Our food was nothing but the two black things, water and dates. However, we had neighbors from the Ansar, may Allah reward them well, both in recent and earlier times, who used to send the Messenger of Allah ﷺ some milk from their sheep each day, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would have some of that milk. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, and there was nothing on my shelf that any living creature could eat except a small amount of barley, roughly half a measure. I kept eating from it, and it lasted me a long time without running out. Then I measured it, and it was finished. I wish I had not measured it. By Allah, his bedding was made of leather stuffed with palm fibers.
Ahmad (24768) narrated it from Siraj, who said, Ibn Abu Zinad narrated to us, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha, and he mentioned it.Its isnad is hasan because of Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Zinad, for his hadith is hasan. Most of the segments of this hadith are found in the Sahihayn, but not with this lengthy wording.
