Ayesha reported,

Nephew, the hair of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was longer than reaching the earlobes but shorter than reaching the shoulders. By Allah, nephew, a whole month would pass during which no fire would be lit in the house of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for cooking, except when there was meat. Our food was nothing but the two black things, water and dates. However, we had neighbors from the Ansar, may Allah reward them well, both in recent and earlier times, who used to send the Messenger of Allah ﷺ some milk from their sheep each day, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would have some of that milk. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, and there was nothing on my shelf that any living creature could eat except a small amount of barley, roughly half a measure. I kept eating from it, and it lasted me a long time without running out. Then I measured it, and it was finished. I wish I had not measured it. By Allah, his bedding was made of leather stuffed with palm fibers.
