A month would pass during which we did not light a fire. It was only dates and water, unless some meat was brought to us.

Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on Riqaq (6458), and this is his wording, and Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Zuhd (2927), both of them through the route of Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha, who mentioned it.
