The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away while we had eaten our fill only of the two black things, dates and water. In another narration, "We had not even eaten our fill of the two black things."
توفي رسول الله ﷺ وقد شبعنا من الأسودين: التمر والماء. وفي رواية: وما شبعنا من الأسودين.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Foods (5442), saying, Muhammad bin Yusuf said, on the authority of Sufyan, from Mansur bin Safiya, my mother narrated to me, from Ayesha, and he mentioned it.Muslim narrated it in the Book of Asceticism and Softening of Hearts (31:2975) through Abdul-Rahman (that is, Ibn Mahdi), from Sufyan, in the same manner.Muslim also narrated it (31:2975) through Ashjai and Abu Ahmad, both of them from Sufyan with this same chain of transmission, except that in their version, from Sufyan, it reads, "We never had our fill of the two black things."
