The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you will be saved by his deeds."They asked, "Not even you, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "Not even me, unless Allah covers me with His mercy. So be steadfast, aim for what is close to perfection, travel in the morning and the evening, and a portion of the night. Be moderate, be moderate, and you will reach your goal."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: لن ينجي أحدا منكم عمله قالوا: ولا أنت يا رسول الله؟ قال: ولا أنا، إلا أن يتغمدني الله برحمة، سددوا وقاربوا، واغدوا وروحوا، وشيء من الدلجة، والقصد القصد تبلغوا.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Raqaiq (6463) from Adam, from Ibn Abu Dhib, from Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, who mentioned it.On this subject, there is also what Ibn Hibban narrated (657, 659) through the route of Husayn bin Ali Jafi, from Fudayl bin Iyad, from Hisham, from Muhammad (that is, Ibn Sirin), from Abu Hurairah, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If Allah were to hold me and the son of Maryam accountable for what these two committed" meaning the thumb and the finger next to it "He would punish us, yet He would not have wronged us at all."Abu Naeem narrated it in al-Hilyah (1328) with this same chain, and said, "It is gharib as a hadith of Fudayl and Hisham, transmitted alone from him by Husayn bin Ali Jafi."
