The Prophet ﷺ said, "Shall I tell you who the best among you are?"They replied, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Those who, when they are seen, cause Allah the Exalted to be remembered."Then he said, "Shall I tell you who the worst among you are? Those who go about spreading slander, who sow discord between loved ones, and who seek to bring hardship upon the innocent."
أن النبي ﷺ قال: ألا أخبركم بخياركم؟ قالوا: بلى يا رسول الله، قال: الذين إذا رؤوا، ذكر الله تعالى ثم قال: ألا أخبركم بشراركم؟ المشاؤون بالنميمة، المفسدون بين الأحبة، الباغون للبراء العنت.
Ahmad (27599) narrated it, and this is his wording, as did Ibn Majah (4119) and Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (323), all of them through various routes from Abdullah bin Uthman bin Khuthaym, from Shahr bin Hawshab, from Asma bint Yazid, and he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Shahr bin Hawshab, for his hadith is hasan when he does not contradict others and does not bring something that would be rejected from him. Abdullah bin Uthman bin Khuthaym is likewise one whose hadith is hasan.There is disagreement over the narration from Shahr bin Hawshab in several respects, and what I have mentioned is the soundest of them.
