The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Abu Dharr, do you think that abundance of wealth is true richness?"I said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "And do you think that scarcity of wealth is true poverty?"I said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "True richness is the richness of the heart, and true poverty is the poverty of the heart."Then he asked me about a man from Quraysh, saying, "Do you know so-and-so?"I said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "How do you regard him?"I said, "When he asks, he is given. When he attends, he is admitted."Then he asked me about a man from the people of the Suffah, saying, "Do you know so-and-so?"I said, "No, by Allah, I do not know him, Messenger of Allah."He kept describing him and listing his features until I recognized him, and I said, "I know him now, Messenger of Allah."He said, "How do you regard him?"I said, "He is a poor man, one of the people of the Suffah."He said, "He is better than an earth's fill of the other."I said, "Messenger of Allah, should he not then be given some of what the other is given?"He said, "If he is granted good, he is worthy of it. And if it is withheld from him, he has already been granted a good deed."

Nasai narrated it in Kubra (11785), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (685), as did Hakim (4/327), all of them through the route of Muawiya bin Salih, from Abdul-Rahman bin Jubayr bin Nufayr, from his father, from Abu Dharr who said, and then he mentioned it. Its isnad is sahih.Hakim said, "This is a sahih hadith meeting the criteria of Bukhari, though neither Bukhari nor Muslim recorded it in this wording. They only recorded it through the route of Amash, from Zayd bin Wahb, from Abu Dharr, in abridged form."I say, I have not been able to locate the hadith to which Hakim is referring.
