The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept on a straw mat, and when he got up, its marks were visible on his side. We said, "Messenger of Allah, what if we made you a soft bedding?"He replied, "What have I to do with this world? I am in this world only like a rider who took shade under a tree, then moved on and left it behind."
نام رسول الله ﷺ على حصير فقام وقد أثر في جنبه، فقلنا: يا رسول الله لو اتخذنا لك وطاء، فقال: مالي وللدنيا، ما أنا في الدنيا إلا كراكب استظل تحت شجرة ثم راح وتركها.
Tirmidhi (2377), Ibn Majah (4109), and Ahmad (4208) narrated it, and Hakim graded it sahih (4/310), all of them through different routes from Masudi (that is, Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Utba), from Amr bin Mura, from Ibrahim Nakhai, from Alqama, from Abdullah, who related it.Its chain is hasan because of Masudi, for he became confused in his later years, but the narration of Waki bin Jarra, as found with Imam Ahmad, was taken before his confusion began.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith."His saying "furnishing" means bedding.
