I asked Ayesha, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform the ritual bath for major impurity at the beginning of the night or at its end?"She replied, "Sometimes he bathed at the beginning of the night, and sometimes he bathed at its end."I said, "Allahu Akbar! Praise be to Allah, who has placed flexibility in this matter."I then asked, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray witr at the beginning of the night or at its end?"She replied, "Sometimes he prayed witr at the beginning of the night, and sometimes he prayed it at its end."I said, "Allahu Akbar! Praise be to Allah, who has placed flexibility in this matter."I then asked, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite the Quran aloud or silently?"She replied, "Sometimes he recited it aloud, and sometimes he recited it silently."I said, "Allahu Akbar! Praise be to Allah, who has placed flexibility in this matter."
Abu Dawud (226), and the wording is his, Nasai (222, 223) restricting himself to the first part of the hadith, which concerns ghusl, and Ibn Majah (1354) restricting himself only to reciting the Quran, all of them transmitted it through Barad bin Sinan, from Ubada bin Nusai, from Ghudayf bin Harith, who related the hadith.Ghudayf bin Harith Sakuni Kindi, Abu Hatim and Abu Zura affirmed that he had companionship with the Prophet, while Ibn Saad and Ajli said he was a follower from the people of Syria and reliable, and Daraqutni and others also affirmed his reliability. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Barad bin Sinan, for he is truthful. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (2447) by this route. On this subject there is also the hadith of Abu Ishaq, from Aswad bin Yazid, from Ayesha, who said, "... Then if he had need of his wife he would fulfill his need and then sleep. When the first call came he would rise and perform ghusl." Muslim related it (739), and it is mentioned in the chapter on the permissibility of a person in a state of major impurity sleeping without wudu, in the Book of Wudu.See the remaining hadiths in the Book of Wudu.
