A man said, "Advise me, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Do not become angry."The man said, "I reflected on what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, and I realized that anger gathers within it every kind of evil."In another wording, narrated from one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, a man said to the Prophet ﷺ, "Tell me a few words by which I may live, and do not make them too many lest I forget them."He said, "Avoid anger."The man repeated his request, and he said again, "Avoid anger."
قال رجل: أوصني يا رسول الله، قال: لا تغضب، قال الرجل: ففكرت حين قال رسول الله ﷺ ما قال، فإذا الغضب يجمع الشر كله. وفي لفظ: عن رجل من أصحاب النبي ﷺ أن رجلا قال للنبي ﷺ: أخبرني بكلمات أعيش بهن ولا تكثر علي فأنسى قال: اجتنب الغضب ثم أعاد عليه، فقال: اجتنب الغضب.
Ahmad narrated it (23171) from Abdul-Razzaq, and it is also in his Musannaf (20286), from Mamar, from Zuhri, from Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman, from a man among the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he related it. Its chain is sahih, and the fact that the companion is unnamed does not harm it.As for the second wording, Ahmad narrated it (23468), and Ibn Abu Shayba (25386), both of them from Sufyan bin Uyayna, from Zuhri, from Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, from a man among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, and he related it. Its chain is likewise sahih, except that Malik narrated it in the Muwatta from Zuhri, from Humayd, as a mursal narration, and the ruling is given to whoever connected it.
