A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "So-and-so has a date palm inside my garden, and he has been causing me trouble and the location of his palm is a hardship for me."The Prophet ﷺ sent for the owner and said to him, "Sell me your palm that is in so-and-so's garden."The man replied, "No."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then give it to me as a gift."He said, "No."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then sell it to me in exchange for a palm in Paradise."He said, "No."So the Prophet ﷺ said, "I have never seen anyone more miserly than you, except the one who is miserly with the greeting of peace."
أن رجلا أتى النبي ﷺ فقال: إن لفلان في حائطي عذقا وإنه قد آذاني وشق علي مكان عذقه فأرسل إليه النبي ﷺ فقال: بعني عذقك الذي في حائط فلان قال: لا قال: فهبه لي قال: لا قال: فبعنيه بعذق في الجنة قال: لا، فقال النبي ﷺ: ما رأيت الذي هو أبخل منك إلا الذي يبخل بالسلام.
Ahmad narrated it (14517) from Abu Amir Aqadi, who said, "Zuhayr narrated to us, from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, from Jabir," and he related it. Its chain of transmission is hasan, due to the discussion surrounding Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, except that his hadith is hasan.Hakim also transmitted it through this route (2/20), presenting it as corroboration for the hadith of Anas, and he remained silent about it.
