The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whatever two people exchange when they revile one another falls upon the one who began it, unless the one wronged exceeds the limit in retaliation."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: المستبان ما قالا، فعلى البادئ، حتى يعتدي المظلوم.
Bukhari related it in Adab al-Mufrad (424) from Ahmad bin Isa, who said, Ibn Wahb told us, who said, Amr bin Harith informed me, from Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Sinan bin Saad, from Anas bin Malik, who said, and then he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan, because of what has been said about Sinan bin Saad, except that his hadith is hasan when his error or mistake is not made clear.
