The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A woman entered the Fire because of a cat she owned. She tied it up and neither fed it nor released it to forage from the creatures of the earth, until it died of starvation."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: دخلت امرأة النار من جراء هرة لها، أو هر ربطتها فلا هي أطعمتها، ولا هي أرسلتها ترمرم من خشاش الأرض حتى ماتت هزلا.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Righteousness and Kinship Ties (2619) from Muhammad bin Rafi, who said, Abdul-Razzaq narrated to us, who said, Maamar narrated to us, from Hammam bin Munabbih, who said, This is what Abu Hurairah narrated to us from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then he mentioned several hadiths, among them, he said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, and he related it.Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Beginning of Creation (3318), and Muslim in the Book of Righteousness and Kinship Ties (2242:134) following hadith (2618), both of them through the route of Ubaydullah bin Umar, from Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, but neither of them mentioned its wording, rather they simply referred back to the hadith of Ibn Umar. Muslim gave it fuller treatment in the Book of Greeting (2243), setting out its various routes of transmission from Abu Hurairah.
