I came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him for something, and he ordered that I be given a small herd of camels. Then he said to me, "When you return to your home, instruct them to nourish their young camels well, and instruct them to trim their nails so they do not injure the udders of their livestock when milking."
أتيت النبي ﷺ فسألته فأمر لي بذود، ثم قال لي: إذا رجعت إلى بيتك فمرهم فليحسنوا غذاء رباعهم، ومرهم فليقلموا أظفارهم، ولا يعبطوا بها ضروع مواشيهم إذا حلبوا.
Ahmad (15961) narrated it from Abu Nadr, who said, Marja bin Raja Yashkuri narrated to us, who said, Salm bin Abdul-Rahman narrated to me, who said, I heard Sawadah bin Rabi mention it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Marja bin Raja Yashkuri, for there is disagreement about him, though his hadith is hasan. Likewise, Salm bin Abdul-Rahman, who is al-Jarmi, also has hasan hadith.As for his saying, "their young camels," the word riba, with the ra pronounced with a kasrah, is the plural of rabaa, which refers to what is born of camels in spring. It has also been said to mean what is born at the very start of the breeding season.As for his saying, "and let them not injure them," it is said, "The udder was injured (ubita)" when it has been made to bleed.
