The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fall behind during travel, urging the weak forward, taking them up to ride behind him, and praying for them.
كان رسول الله ﷺ يتخلف في المسير فيزجي الضعيف، ويردف، ويدعو لهم.
Narrated by Abu Dawud (2639), and Hakim (2/115), and from him Bayhaqi (5/275), through the route of Ismail bin Ulaya, who said, Hajjaj bin Abu Uthman narrated to us, from Abu Zubayr, that Jabir bin Abdullah narrated it to them, and he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Abu Zubayr. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim." His saying "yuzji" means he drives them along.
