Someone asked, "Have you seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He replied, "Yes."The questioner asked, "How did he look?"He said, "He was fair-skinned and handsome. When he walked, it was as though he were descending a slope."
رأيت رسول الله ﷺ قلت: كيف رأيته؟ قال: كان أبيض مليحا، إذا مشى كأنما يهوي في صبوب.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4864) and Ibn Qani in Mujam Sahabah (2/242), both through Abdul-Ala, who said, Saeed Jareeri narrated to us, from Abu Tufayl, who said, and then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Saeed Jareeri is Saeed bin Iyas, a trustworthy narrator whose memory became mixed up later in life, but the narration of Abdul-Ala bin Abdul-Ala Sami from him was before this mixing occurred.Muslim also reported it (2340:99) through Abdul-Ala, but he shortened it to his saying, "He was fair-skinned and handsome." As for the phrase "as if he were descending a slope," it appears in Ibn Qani's version as "into a depression," meaning a place that slopes downward, and its sense is that he seemed to be walking down into a sloping area.
