The Prophet ﷺ used to perform the ritual bath with a saa of water and perform ablution with a mudd.
أن النبي ﷺ كان يغتسل بالصاع، ويتوضأ بالمد.
Abu Dawud (92), Nasai (347), and Ibn Majah (268) all narrated it from the hadith of Qatada, from Safiya bint Shayba, from Ayesha, and he related the hadith. Its chain of transmission is sahih, except that Qatada, despite his mastery in hadith, used to practice tadlis. However, Abu Dawud said, following his narration of the hadith through the route of Hammam bin Yahya, from Qatada, from Safiya bint Shayba, "Aban narrated it from Qatada, who said, 'I heard Safiya.'" This removes the suspicion of tadlis from him.The hadith of Ayesha has other routes as well, among them, Qatada, from Hasan, from his mother, from Ayesha, with similar wording. Nasai narrated it. Among them also, Qatada, from Muaza, from Ayesha, with similar wording. Abu Ubayd narrated it in Tahur (number 112).
