We were in al-Ahwaz fighting the Haruriyyah. While I was on the bank of a river, I saw a man praying with the reins of his mount in his hand. The animal began pulling away from him and he kept following after it. A man from the Khawarij said, "Allah, deal with this old man!"When the old man finished his prayer, he said, "I heard what you said. I went on six, or seven, or eight military expeditions with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and witnessed his ease and leniency. I would rather walk back with my mount than let it return to its familiar pasture and cause hardship for me."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer (1211), from Adam, who said, Shubah narrated to us, who said, Azraq bin Qays narrated to us, who said, and then he related the account. His saying, "there was a man praying," Shubah said, he is Abu Barza Aslami.
